Beetroot Detroit Red Globe Seeds (Beta vulgaris), Introduced nearly a century ago and still one of the favourites for main crop sowing. Deep red flesh, marvellous flavour and stores well. Easy to grow vegetable and much more tasty than fresh shop bought beetroot.
March to July
Sow thinly in shallow drills 1.5cm deep with 30cm between rows.
Start thining out the seedlings gradually as they grow, to a spacing of 10cm. Beetroot do not like being transplanted.
Start to harvest as they become the size of tennis balls between June to October.
For a good supply of beetroot through summer months, sow a small amount of seed every two weeks.
Beetroot Detroit contains beta carotene, calcium , iron & folic acid.
