Late February to May
Sow broccoli seeds thinly over a well prepared shallow seed bed in drills 1.5cm deep in short rows. You can also sow the summer purple seeds thinly, in seeds trays of two seeds per cell in modules under glass at 13°C.
Outdoor sowings should be thinned out to 7-10cm apart , then once your broccoli plants are large enough , lifted and transplated to their final planting positions 60cm apart and 90cm between the rows to grow on to maturity.
As soon as glasshouse seedlings show their first pair of leaves, prick off into trays 5cm apart or thin modules to one seedling per cell.
Gradually harden off before planting out when about 15cm tall to the same spacings as detailed above. Your Broccoli should be planted out within 4 weeks of sowing.
You should be able to start harvesting Broccoli Summer Purple from mid July to October. Once the main head on the broccoli has been harvested, the plant will produce small heads over the following weeks.
Heavy yielding with a sweet flavour. Good in stir fry.
