February to June or September and October
Under cover sow seeds onto the surface of a good free-draining seed compost. Do not cover papaver coral reef seeds as the light will help to germinate the poppy seeds. Place at a temperature of 15°C until after germination which usually takes 10-21 days.
Transplant papaver seedlings when large enough to handle into pots and grow on until larger. Gradually acclimatise coral reef plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out 30cm apart.
Later sowings of the coral reef poppy should be overwintered in a cold frame for planting out the following spring.
May to July the following year.
