Strawberry Spinach or Strawberry Sticks herb seeds (Chenopodium capitatum), are a highly attractive dual purpose plant for both the herb and flower garden. They have a base branching habit, growing to about 40cm high. The light green leaves on the plant can be cooked and used like spinach.
This is then followed by strawberry like fruits along the stems which are very tasty picked and eaten fresh, a native of North America.
Late February to June.
In pots or trays, in a greenhouse at 21-24°C, reducing to cooler temperature as the plants get bigger.
Strawberry spinach can take up to 18 days to fully germinate.
You can use regular all purpose or seed compost and keep the soil moist. Ensure plants have access to some sunlight, though do not plant in full sun.
